In Harare, two people were killed on the spot and three injured when a Honda Fit was ravaged by an oncoming train at a railway crossing along Chiremba Road in Hillside. The railway crossing has traffic lights which unfortunately have not been working for several years.

In Bulawayo, six people were killed on the spot and eight others hospitalized when a combi and a haulage truck collided at the intersection of Khami Road and Masiyephambili, close to the Nkulumane Complex. The combi rolled over several times and landed on the roof.

Both these accidents involve illegal forms of transport; the mshikashika (small cars used to ferry passengers at a fee) and the unlicensed combi. The government has been making efforts to ban unlicensed commuters on the road and encouraging people to use licensed ZUPCO vehicles.

However, there is a huge demand for transport and people often favour using unlicensed (go fast) transporters than waiting in long queues to secure a seat on a ZUPCO vehicle.

The issue is still under trial but according to the homeowner’s relatives who manage the property, Mr Chitsungo does not have a healthy relationship with the owners of the property. He refused to abide by an eviction notice issued to him and responds with harsh words when pressured to pay his rentals.

An incident is related by the manager of the property where the roof had leaks and Mr Chitsungo reported it. a person was sent to repair the damage but might have been delayed arriving. Mr Chitsungo then repaired the damage and then issued the property owner the receipt.

Mr Chitsungo is noted to have last paid rentals in November 2020. He challenged the property owner to take him to the courts and he has also proceeded to sublet the property. Mr Chitsungo commented about the allegations to the Sunday Mail and denies ever refusing to vacate the property. He said he has stayed in the house for 10 years.

Mr Chitsungo said the problem started when his property was damaged by water because of leaks. He said the property owners refused to pay him back for the damage and so he does not owe them anything. He also denied receiving notice from the property owner.

This is a common challenge among people who lease their properties directly to tenants without intervention from professional agencies. Over time both parties tend to operate without paperwork and leases are not renewed. It then becomes difficult for either party to claim fair treatment should any issues arise because nothing is clearly documented or signed for.

The woman from Mpopoma is said to have appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Shepherd Mnjanja after her son shared the ordeal with his friend who then told his mother. The friend’s mother is the one who then made sure the issue was reported.

The identities of both mother and son have not been revealed as it is a sensitive case involving a minor. Allegations against the woman are that from January this year up to 13 March, the woman enticed her six-year-old son to be in between the sheets with her.

The son is said to have refused but the woman threatened to beat him with a cable if he did not meet her demands. The woman was not asked to plead and she has been remanded in custody to the 22^nd of March for routine remand. The magistrate advised her to apply for bail.

Coolboy Sikhumbuzo Moyo was home when his 14 year old daughter came back from the shops at around 3pm. The girl explained to the courts that she was accompanied back home by a male friend of hers. The dad was not very happy with this and immediately assumed the worst.

The girl’s friend left her by the gate and Coolboy immediately attacked his daughter physically and verbally. He was choking her and beating her so badly that she had to be saved by two men that were passing by.

Naomi Ndlovu, who is the girl’s grandmother, immediately went to file for a protection order for the 14 year old from her dad.

The courts sure have been busy with the several protection order applications being sent in. We have previously reported of a man who had to file for a protection order against his cheating wife who was in the habit of bashing him.

This sad situation took place when the security guard in question, 61 year old Sebatian Ncube, is said to have been ill for a week. On Thursday 9 September Ncube is said to have even failed to report for duty as a result of his worsened condition. His neighbour stated that he was vomiting and having diarrhoea. He was then found dead on the toilet seat when the neighbour was on their way to visit the communal toilet.

The body was taken to Bulawayo United Hospitals for a post-mortem.

Bulawayo Deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said that they are still waiting on post-mortem results to determine the cause of death.

In another case that took place in Bulawayo, a landlord was stabbed in the buttocks and had to be rushed to the hospital.

Individuals who we least expected to be caught up in the robbery allegations have been caught up in such crime. For instance, the former President Mugabe’s son and later a member of the Presidential Guard.

Regardless of who it was, most of the criminals got away with items of significant value. This is a stark contrast to the four armed robbers in Bulawayo that managed to get away with US$1.

On Wednesday 8 September, the four robbers are said to have smashed a bedroom window at Montgomery Plot in Bulawayo. They gained access to the house and proceeded to tie the family members. The robbers are said to have been wearing balaclavas and were armed with a machete, wire and axe.

Two of the gang members stayed in the yard while the other two went into the bedroom and proceeded to tie up the home owner with a wire. After the whole family was tied up, the robbers ransacked the house and found US$1.This was in addition to two blankets, TV, decoder and a car battery.

After managing to untie himself, the home owner reported the incident to the police.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Abneco Ncube confirmed the incidence and has pleaded to anyone with information on the thieves to report it to the nearest police station.

Inspector Ncube also recently pleaded with the public for any information that will lead to the arrest of the men who stabbed a landlord in the buttocks.

After 3 am on Tuesday 6 September in a suburb in Bulawayo, the man of the house was stabbed in his rear end. This ordeal followed after 3 men had broken into his Cawdray Park suburb. After taking the man down by stabbing him in his buttocks, the thieves continued to get away with cash amounting to US$250, a stove and a gas cylinder.

The man of the house is said to have been fast asleep when the thieves entered and surrounded him. They were armed with a knife, axe and iron rod. While hurriedly trying to put on his trousers, the man was slapped by one of the thieves and stabbed in the bum by another. He is said to have been told to hand over all his money if he didn’t want to die.

The Bulawayo Police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident and stated that the robbers are still on the run. He went on to appeal for any information from the public that will lead to the arrest of these robbers.

Robbery crimes such as these are on the rise in the country. One of the most recent was a daylight robbery that happened to the hip hop artist Holy Ten’s ex girlfriend Yahya Goodvibes.

It doesn’t help the situation that the covid pandemic is making it it difficult for children to receive their education. A vast majority even went a year without learning. While students in well-off private school continue to learn as usual using online systems, the rest of the nation’s children don’t have access to that opportunity.

In Bulawayo, a 15 year old student, Nhlanhla Ngwenya found this unfortunate situation to be a huge opportunity. Nhlanhla decided to usher his school into the digital era. Like many schools, St Colombus High, Bulawayo was stifled by the covid pandemic. Nhlanhla decided to create a textbook system and website to bridge the digital divide at youth and school levels in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabweans only felt sorry that the child might not get the needed support from the this country to realise his full capabilities.

The importance of prioritising the education of Africa’s little ones was emphasised Econet’s by Strive Masiyiwa. Ironically data prices are among some of reasons that it has been difficult for most students and schools to go digital.
