]]>Olinda Chapel-Nkomo shared a picture of a Covid positive test a few days ago on her Facebook page with the caption “Ma one”.
Today on Facebook, Olinda posted of Facebook;
“Amana covid ma one. Ndaizviita ndururani the last 3 years ndichiti ndiri strong. Chinhu chino chino rwadza. Plus kuita kunge wakutopenga. Apo I have 3 vaccines. Haaaaaa ndabhooo. I want to go back to work”
Olinda talks about how the illness is causing her pain and making her feel like she is hallucinating or going mad. And all this despite getting three shots of the Covid 19 vaccine.
Recently many countries like South Africa, Kenya, Denmark and many others have announced that they have removed most (if not all) Covid restrictions as they feel that people are coping well due to good vaccine uptake. With a few people like Olinda Chapel-Nkomo getting ill, could removing measures spark another wave?

]]>There is no longer a ban on large indoor gatherings such as religious services or a requirement to present a negative COVID-19 test for arriving air passengers.
Although restrictions have been lifted, Kenyans have been encouraged to adhere to Covid 19 safety measures like sanitizing and social distancing.
Face masks are no longer mandatory in public and all quarantine measures for confirmed COVID-19 cases have been halted with immediate effect. For the past month, the East African country’s COVID-19 test positivity rate has remained below 1%.
Nearly 29% of Kenyan adults are fully vaccinated, more than most countries in sub-Saharan Africa and this could have been a key motivator to removing the restrictions.
With a population of 54 million, Kenya recorded less than 35 daily COVID infections over the past week, according to government statistics. About 323,000 infections, and 5,600 deaths, have been recorded throughout the pandemic since 2020.
Kenya joins other countries like South Africa, Namibia, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Norway, Israel and El Salvador. South Africa led the pack earlier this year being the first South African country to remove their Covid 19 restrictions.
Zimbabwe is currently under a level two lockdown and has been so for months now since the Omicron variant entered the country. There has been a recent spike of new infections ranging from 200 to 700 since children returned to school. However, there haven’t been many deaths. The ministry of health claims that a total of 4 401 450 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 to date.
So why is Zimbabwe still under lockdown given the numbers? Although there is a lockdown, people pretty much do whatever they want whenever they want. There is no social distancing in public places especially in queues and in public transport.

]]>Diana, a 20-year old A-level student was convicted for arson and theft after she broke into her boyfriend’s house and stole academic certificates, a birth certificate, and a Samsung tablet. She then ran away after setting the place on fire.
Mbare Magistrate, Nyasha Vhitorini sentenced Diana to a wholly suspended 36 months for the two counts of arson and theft on the condition that she does not commit a similar offence in the next three years. This means she will not serve any time behind bars as long as she does not commit a similar offence within the next 3 years.
Diana justified her actions by saying she committed the offence because she was angry at Kudakwashe ( her boyfriend and complainant) for taking her virginity and dumping her.
This incident is an example of what happens when the education system is broken down. For years now students haven’t been learning much because of lockdowns due to the Covid pandemic, add to that teacher’s strikes as is currently being witnessed.
The time out of school and being unproductive may cause students to focus on other issues like socializing and dating. During the national lockdowns, we also witnessed the youth and young adults hosting house parties.
With the lack of resources for e-learning and few classroom learning hours, many children may have to repeat their grades because it is difficult to pass exams without sufficient knowledge.
The fact that Diana is 20 and still in Form 6 means she probably had to repeat in the past. This incident is not only a sign of moral decay but it also reflects the current continuously degrading state of the education system.

]]>As a part of measures to curb the spread of Covid-19 the government has been using various, methods to encourage vaccination. Their efforts have even caused the World Health Organisation to recognise the nation as leading in SADC on their vaccination drive. This is where people start to wonder whether the measures being taken to encourage vaccination have ulterior, perhaps egotistical motives.
Although encouraged, vaccination is supposedly an individual’s personal choice. Denmark even did away with measures such as vaccination following reports of the effects of vaccination on some individuals.
However, in practice it doesn’t seem to be a personal choice. The government itself had previously barred unvaccinated individuals from attending church services and arrested some who were caught on the wrong side of this regulation. Other companies laid out ultimatums concerning vaccination to their employees.
OK Zimbabwe recently joined those employers. Although, they have not given their employees ultimatums, they just sent unvaccinated employees home on unpaid leave. The employees can resume work once they are vaccinated. This leaves employees who are desperate for their jobs with no other choice.
Should such measures be taken to “encourage” vaccination?

]]>One pressing issue was the one concerning vaccination against Covid-19. The media has long since presented some strong arguments for and against vaccinations. Those who choose not to get vaccinated do so for various reasons that might be triggered by news all over of people who have died following vaccination complications.
Hence, it follows that sensitive matters such as these could have long term implications if someone was forced to make a decision against their will just to please the government or employers.
Whilst the Denmark government was removing all said covid preventative measures including vaccination, Zimbabwe’s government has even arrested pastors for including unvaccinated members in their church services. This follows after the mandate barring unvaccinated individuals from attending such services.
The matter was taken up to the High Courts as the Statutory Instrument was said to be infringing on human rights.
The police or any other authorities are no longer allowed to arrest anyone on the grounds of attending functions or services while not being vaccinated. Hence, unvaccinated individuals can attend church services freely once again.

To be vaccinated or not to be vaccinated, that matter is left to an individual to decide.

]]>Sadly, on Wednesday 8 September, at least 10 covid -19 patients who were being nursed back to health died. This followed after a fire broke out and burnt down the Tetov hospital covid-19 unit that had been built for North Macedonia’s coronavirus patients.
An explosion is said to have caused the fire. The fire was extinguished but lives were still lost. The country’s Health Minister Venko Filipche shared the ordeal on his twitter and stated that it is possible that more patients could have died in the fire.
The COVID-19 unit was built last year at the hospital to look after coronavirus patients in the town of about 50,000 people. This is because the Macedonian health facilities could not fully accommodate increasing coronavirus patients as the facilities are said to be run down.
The Tetovo deputy fire chief Saso Trajcevski told local television that “The fire was huge because the hospital is modular, there was plastic, we took out victims while we put out the flames.”
Several injured people were taken to hospitals in Skopje, the capital city.

]]>Perhaps you are wondering what the big deal with just getting vaccinated is. Well, thus far society has showcased some very conflicting views with regards to vaccination. If church congregants cannot even have a unanimous view on the matter, what more landlords and their tenants?
The resistance even goes as far as whole nations like Denmark eradicating covid measures including vaccination. This is no surprise especially when there are still some deaths that have been linked to the vaccine.
A recent local survey showed that some landlords are now only renting their place out to fully vaccinated individuals. Some are even going as far as not allowing their tenants to receive visitors.
The survey also focused particularly on an area that has come to be known as “pamalandlords” in Mutare, Chikanga because of the landlords’ strictness. The general sentiment expressed by the landlords was that if herd immunity is achieved in the homes first, then it will be better for the nation. Some even insisted they will only talk to the journalist with the condition that they were vaccinated.
We wonder if many more landlords are starting to adopt this view. Nonetheless, it almost goes unsaid that since others were vaccinated in order to keep their jobs, they’ll probably do the same with accommodation.
Hopefully the tenant Mudiwa Hood has been vaccinated, otherwise zvinogona kudhakwa.

]]>A BBC journalist named Lisa Shaw, 44, has just died following complications from the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, reports indicate that Shaw complained of headaches, and hospital scans revealed hemorrhage on brain.
A coroner revealed that she died from Covid-19 complications.
The AstraZeneca vaccine was banned from certain countries in March of this year following complications, that is also the same vaccine which is being administered in Botswana.
Many people in the world remain un-vaccinated for various reasons with some rejecting the jab because they doubt its effectiveness, some are waiting for a vaccine that has been proven since most of the jabs people are receiving are still in a trial phase.
Zimbabwe recently announced that those who are fully vaccinated with 2 jabs can attend church, on the ground that move has faced a lot of resistance.
Information Minister also announced that food outlets can now open for full vaccinated people amongst other measures.
Have you been vaccinated?

]]>According to news reports a Christ Embassy pastor is the first casualty to get arrested for flouting this new directive, after the police found 50 unvaccinated members congregating at his Glen View 3 church.
The pastor was fined $2000 and some of the members are still assisting police with investgations, whatever that means.
The issue of vaccines have divided the citizens with some advocating for it and some for whatever reason for it, it’s also worth noting that some developed countries have taken a radical approach of ditching the vaccines altogether.
The government is really trying to force its way on the church which it feels might be the biggest hindrance in the adoption of vaccines.
Should the vaccines be forced, what’s our take?
