]]>The Robbery
A security company in Zimbabwe, Fawcett was carrying out its usual day to day work. One of these jobs include safely transporting large sums of money to safes. This money usually comes from large business like grocery stores etc.
On the 25th of November some security guards with US$335 000 in transit claimed to have been robbed at a fake police roadblock. This robbery turned out to have been an inside job after one of the guards’ wives was allegedly found with US$18 000 cash of the stolen money.
Long story short, the guards were arrested and the criminals they are said to have been conniving with are said to be on the run. Security companies have since been encouraged to put in place rigorous measures to ensure that their client’s money would be safe in the hands of their employees.
Now onto the interesting part…
The Dumb “Thief” (allegedly)
Not long after the guards were “robbed at gunpoint,” these are the images that are said to have emerged on one of the men’s Whatsapp status:

Ermmm, why would he do that? I mean, I don’t condone stealing or anything like that…but, really??
More details on this are yet to be verified.
Anyways, modern day thieves are really taking this to a whole new level. We previously shared the story that took place in South Africa when a few individuals managed to steal railway tracks. Yes, you heard that right!…Railway track!

]]>A 59 year old Nene Banda descended on a shop in Bulawayo, corner Sixth Avenue and Joshua Mquabuko Street. He came in under the guise that he intended on buying a bed. When he thought noone was watching him, he stole a wig.
It was only in the evening that the storekeepers noticed that the wig was missing and advised their superior. Fortunately, the CCTV cameras were working and had captured the man clearly.
Banda was caught when he tried to steal a second time.
Watch the video below:
Nene Banda appeared before Magistrate Amanda Ndlovu and pleaded guilty to theft. He will be remanded out of custody next week Monday.
Very unexpected for someone his age. This is quite similar to the case of a grandmother who swindled $20 000 from their church member.

]]>Individuals who we least expected to be caught up in the robbery allegations have been caught up in such crime. For instance, the former President Mugabe’s son and later a member of the Presidential Guard.
Regardless of who it was, most of the criminals got away with items of significant value. This is a stark contrast to the four armed robbers in Bulawayo that managed to get away with US$1.
On Wednesday 8 September, the four robbers are said to have smashed a bedroom window at Montgomery Plot in Bulawayo. They gained access to the house and proceeded to tie the family members. The robbers are said to have been wearing balaclavas and were armed with a machete, wire and axe.
Two of the gang members stayed in the yard while the other two went into the bedroom and proceeded to tie up the home owner with a wire. After the whole family was tied up, the robbers ransacked the house and found US$1.This was in addition to two blankets, TV, decoder and a car battery.
After managing to untie himself, the home owner reported the incident to the police.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Abneco Ncube confirmed the incidence and has pleaded to anyone with information on the thieves to report it to the nearest police station.
Inspector Ncube also recently pleaded with the public for any information that will lead to the arrest of the men who stabbed a landlord in the buttocks.

]]>Such a dilemma was presented when a member of the presidential guard was caught in armed robbery allegations. The presidential guard member, Arnold Matetepa was brought before the courts on Saturday 17 July 2021 facing allegations of armed robbery. He is said to have been arrested when he sought out medical attention for the gunshot he sustained in his rib cage after he was shot by the police amidst an armed robbery attempt.
The court were told that on June 24, Matetepa and his four accomplices robbed Velvet Service Station in Chitungwiza. They are said to have gotten away with US$2 500 cash and other valuables after assaulting and disarming a security guard. It was on that same evening that Matetepa was shot while attempting another robbery.
Harare Magistrate Judith Taruwinga remanded the presidential guard Matetepa on is bed till August 3.
This is not the first time that those that are expected to uphold the law have been caught on the wrong side of it. Another instance that is said to take place frequently is that of police officers boarding mushika-shikas despite the official police statement banning the use of such vehicles.

]]>The 14 year old boy broke into the armoury at the police station and managed to get away with 2 pistols. In addition, he stole several mobile phones, bank cards and identification cards.
Although there were policemen present at the station, none of them detected the boy and he managed to leave with the stolen items.
The juvenile was caught when he tried to carry out an armed robbery with the stolen pistol. This took place later that day when the 14 year old broke into Gugulethu Mpofu’s home just as she was retiring to bed.
It was Mpofu who realised that the boy was holding the pistol incorrectly which lead her to retrieve it from him.She followed up with a police report. The boy the appeared before Gweru’s Magistrate facing charges of theft and armed robbery.
Now you’re probably wondering what would lead a 14 year old boy into crime.
The boy defended himself saying that he resorted to crime as his employer was not paying him. After not receiving his pay, he stole a bike and and left Lower Gwelo for Gweru. After dumping the bike, he claims he was forced to steal in order to raise bus fare to go back home.
The boy was remanded in custody.
For some reason, crime is at an all time high these days. We recently shared the new strategy Masvingo thieves were using to have their victims surrender everything out of fear.
